UNIWASTEC turns waste into a valuable material and energy source

UNIWASTEC is a technology and service provider in waste management. We consider waste as a resource and convert it into raw materials that are environmentally friendly and deliver CO2-neutral recyclables and green energy.

We enable the production of synthetic natural gas, green electricity, synthetic fuel and green hydrogen from waste, used tires, sewage sludge, manure, biomass and wastewater.

Our patented technologies process waste completely emission-free, are energetically many times more effective than existing solutions on the market and result in valuable materials and energy products of the highest quality.

Generating 1.5 MWh worth of green electricity from 1 ton of waste through UNIWASTEC.

Waste is usually either stored in landfills or incinerated. The fast and cost-efficient disposal of waste is the main focus. Important raw materials are lost in the process.

UNIWASTEC uses waste as a resource for green energy production. We recycle waste as much as possible and return the valuable materials to the cycle. Therefore, we ball the non-recyclable fractions for energy storage and recycle them energetically as needed using our environmentally friendly Waste-2-Energy technologies. In this way, we ensure a baseload supply (24/7) of green energy and generate 1.5 MWh of green electricity from 1 metric ton of waste.

Advantages of our technology

  • Instead of incineration, emission-free thermal waste utilization through gasification with no toxic by-products or pollutants that need to be landfilled or released into the atmosphere
  • The only by-product is coking coal which can be processed in the construction industry. At least 458 kilograms of CO2 equivalent per ton of conditioned waste can be extracted permanently from the materials cycle (carbon capture).
  • Our process facilitates the use of 99% of the energy content of the waste materials.

Scrap tires

UNIWASTEC converts 100 tons of scrap tires into 70 tons of rubber powder

All over the world, scrap tires are landfilled, recycled inadequately, or incinerated. The environmental damage can be severe and the high potential of this waste material as a resource remains untapped.

UNIWASTEC generates green electricity from scrap tires. First, we shred the tires and filter out the steel. Then, we process the rubber into granulate and the finest rubber powder. Finally, we extract the textile fibers and recycle them energetically into green electricity. In this way, we recover from 100 tons of scrap tires, 25 tons of steel, 70 tons of rubber powder and 7.5 MWh of green electricity.

Advantages of our technology

  • Almost complete separation of all main tire components (purity > 99.9 percent)
  • No use of chemicals, no waste disposal required, minimal water consumption
  • Ultra-fine rubber powder replaces 60% of the primary raw materials used for industrial products including hoses, pipes, seals and injection-molded products

Sewage Sludge

UNIWASTEC produces 312 MWh of green electricity from 1000 tons of sewage sludge

As a rule, sewage sludge is recycled in mono-incineration plants. However, this process is neither ecologically nor economically ideal. Also, rather than being recovered, the phosphorus contained in the sludge is bound in the ash and then stored for a later step in the recovery process.

UNIWASTEC exposes sewage sludge to hydrothermal carbonization. We bind the valuable phosphorus in a granulate. By subjecting the dried sludge to our environmentally friendly gasification technology, we produce up to 312 MWh of green electricity and 28 tons of phosphorus from 1000 tons of sewage sludge (TS 25%). In addition, we process the resulting process water into 57 tons of green hydrogen.

Advantages of our technology

  • Our process requires 80% less energy than traditional drying.
  • We extract the phosphorus in a plant available form at the beginning of the process. This allows us to return the phosphorus directly to the materials cycle.
  • Traditional mono-incineration (e.g., in fluidized bed furnaces) produces nitrous oxide emissions including 1192 kilograms of CO2 equivalent per ton of incinerated sewage sludge. Our technology helps avoid these emissions.


The role of UNIWASTEC in the conversion of 3’000 cubic meters of cattle manure into 95’000 liters of synthetic fuel.

The extensive meat production produces more liquid manure than is needed to fertilize the fields. Excess liquid manure must be disposed of at high costs, or it is shipped to places where the limit values have not yet been reached.

UNIWASTEC recycles liquid manure sustainably in the region where it is produced. We expose it to pressure sterilization and separate it into solid and liquid components. We process these further and thus produce 95’000 liters of synthetic fuel, 232 tons of green hydrogen and 120 tons of NPK fertilizer from 3’000 cubic meters of cattle manure.

  • Mineral NPK fertilizer with high nutrient content as a valuable material
  • Manure as an input to produce synthetic catalytic fuel and green hydrogen


UNIWASTEC produces 1 ton of synthetic fuel from 3 tons of biomass

Biomass, for example, in the form of agricultural waste, is usually left to rot or burn. Both rotting and combustion release vast amounts of climate-damaging gases into the atmosphere. Both rotting and combustion release vast amounts of climate-damaging gases into the atmosphere.

UNIWASTEC uses biomass for green energy production. For example, with 3 tons of biomass, we produce 1 ton of 3rd generation synthetic catalytic fuel. One hundred percent of this fuel, in the form of diesel or kerosene, can be used in conventional engines.

Advantages of our technology

  • The synthetic fuel is free of environmentally harmful pollutants such as sulfur and chlorine
  • The fuels meet the highest quality standards (EN590 diesel standard)
  • Climate-neutral process due to the use of cellulose-containing plant material. This contrasts with the artificial processes that use hydrogen or fossil natural gas to produce synthetic fuel

Waste water

UNIWASTEC produces 89 kilograms of green hydrogen from 1 cubic meter of water

Environmental toxins contaminate wastewater in many ways. Current technologies reach their limits when it comes to removing all critical substances. There are no wastewater treatment plants in 80 per cent of the world’s countries. As a result, polluted wastewater enters the groundwater untreated and contaminates the soil.

UNIWASTEC purifies wastewater up to drinking water quality or produces green hydrogen by employing special thermo-electrolysis. Thus, we can produce 900 liters of drinking water or 89 kilograms of green hydrogen from 1 cubic meter of wastewater.

Advantages of our technology

  • Specially designed thermo-electrolysis – from an energetic perspective many times cheaper than conventional water electrolysis
  • Hydrogen is green and highly pure (5.0/99.999%) and directly suitable for fuel cells. Medical grade oxygen. Medical grade oxygen.
  • Wastewater or seawater can be used as feedstock, as water treatment and hydrogen production is combined in one plant.
